" A big attraction for me is the huge array of disciplines to aim at within the sport, from light wind freestyle, through high wind blasting and advanced freestyle, to wave sailing. I’ve also found it a really great community and can’t think of many sports where beginners like me get to go out on the same playing field with pros. Pottering around an old Bedfordshire clay pit with a pro who’s usually competing around the world on huge gnarly waves is a great experience " John Mitchelin

National Windsurfing Week 2009 |
9 days, 50+ events and wind!
The biggest difference between this year's National Windsurfing Week and the 2008 event was the weather, most importantly the wind. Last year we had little if any wind, but this year we were blessed with plenty of wind and some blue sky and sunshine.
The fantastic "Sunrise to Sunset" event organised by the charity "Windsurfing 4 Cancer Research" started the week in style and saw hundreds of people on the water enjoying the conditions at Hayling Island. Other venues reported similar success and a lot of money was raised for a very worthwhile charity whilst promoting our sport.
Lots of centres reported a big interest in lessons for beginners and taster sessions. Brogborough Lake had more than 150 people attend their taster sessions over the Bank Holiday Weekend and other centres reported a similar level of success
Midweek the wind blew and blew. Probably too much for a raw beginner, but enough for demo sessions, guru clinics and improver's to get some quality water-time and promote windsurfing
The second weekend saw sun and wind on the south coast, perfect conditions for an introduction to the sport. Overall it was a great week and we are already hoping for similar weather next year!
Many thanks to all those that took part - Regards from The National Windsurfing Week team
