DescriptionChristchurch Boardsailing Club invites you to partake in a free ride downwind blast from Sandbanks in Poole to Christchurch Boardsailing Club at Steamer point, Christchurch. Once at the clubhouse there will be a few drinks and a bit of social. The club will provide the beer fridge, you just need to bring a few beers. If there is enough interest (and weather permitting) we may even fire up the barby!
The event will be run on the first suitably windy day on one of the following dates; 2nd / 3rd May or 9th / 10th May. Basically if its not windy the first weekend in May we will roll it over to the second but if still not windy then unfortunately the window of opportunity is lost L….. but fingers crossed for those days J!!!
The distance is approx 10 miles and there are no hazardous shipping lanes / strong currents to deal with so this is attainable for most levels of sailors. If we get a decent force 4 it should take between 40 mins – 1.5hrs depending on ability.
If you wish to come and join us please could you send an email with your name and mobile phone number to the email addresses at the bottom of this page. This will allow us to txt and email you the night before to let you know if the event will be going ahead. We anticipate notifying everyone by 7pm the night before and we will also put a notice on this webpage and the boards forum. We will only notify you if the event is going ahead, if you don’t hear anything then please don’t turn up in anticipation. I’m sure most of you will be able to determine from the weather forecast if it looks suitable! The rough plan is to be rigged and ready to go for around 11.00am on the beach in front of the café, i.e next to the large car park which is opposite FC Watersports @ Sandbanks.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a safety boat so it’s down to you to look after yourself and help others should they get into difficulties, therefore, please only sail as far out to sea as you are comfortable with. We would ask that all sailors as a minimum, carry a couple of flares and a mobile phone (i.e tucked in an aqua pack or similar).
Fingers crossed for a windy weekend!

DescriptionIf you are looking for the ultimate beach hut, come and join Christchurch Windsurfing Club...situated on the South Coast in beautiful Christchurch, Dorset with the nearby Highcliffe Sailing Club being the watersports training camp location for the 2012 Olympics ! Whether you are a windsurfer or not, the very reasonably priced yearly membership entitles you to full use of the clubhouse which sits at the top of Steamer Point in the glorious area of Christchurch. The clubhouse consists of a kitchen, changing rooms and showers (ladies and gents) and use of the patio area overlooking Friar's Cliff and Avon Beach. Mudeford Quay is to hand where you can sample fresh fish and seafood and take the ferry across to yet another sandy beach. Steamer Point Nature Reserve hugs the cliff top above Highcliffe beach in Dorset on the south coast of England. It was originally part of the garden and associated land of Highcliffe Castle. Lord Bute was the first owner of this area and built a mansion on the current site of Highcliffe Castle in the late 18th century. EventList powered by schlu.net |
